Are pH measurements in brine a problem?

Water samples with a high salt concentration have a correspondingly high conductivity. Did you know that in a solution with a salt concentration over 0.1 mol/L the pH value is no longer accurately defined? Therefore it makes sense to measure pH only in a solution with a salt concentration of 0.1 mol/L or less. Seawater is one of the most common applications.

Lab measurements
The optimum system for measuring pH in water with high conductivity: the Metrohm 780 pH Meter with a combined pH electrode with fixed ground sleeve diaphragm and double-junction reference!

Field measurements
The most flexible system for field measurement in water with high conductivity: the Metrohm 826 pH mobile with a combined pH electrode with fixed ground sleeve diaphragm and double-junction reference!
